Saline Sonography (SSG) / Sono Hysterography
A simple, outpatient imaging test that provides a clearer view of the uterine cavity to support fertility planning.
Purpose
Saline Sonography (SSG) also called Sonohysterography — is a specialized ultrasound test that helps us closely examine the inside of the uterus (uterine cavity). During the scan, sterile saline is gently introduced into the uterus, which opens the cavity slightly and gives a clearer view of the uterine lining than a routine ultrasound.
This helps identify uterine conditions that may affect implantation, pregnancy outcomes, and treatment planning—especially before IUI or IVF.
Ideal for evaluating:
Uterine polyps
Fibroids that may protrude into the cavity (submucosal fibroids)
Adhesions / scarring (Asherman’s)
Uterine septum or structural variations
Unexplained infertility, recurrent implantation failure, or recurrent miscarriage workups
Best timing: Usually done after your period ends and before ovulation, when the lining is thin and visibility is best.

Procedure
Multiple clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of ovulation induction:
Preparation
Scheduled after your period and before ovulation for best visibility. You may be advised a mild pain reliever beforehand.
Saline + Ultrasound
A thin catheter is placed gently, and sterile saline is slowly infused while a transvaginal ultrasound is performed.
What we look for
The saline outlines the cavity, helping detect polyps, fibroids, adhesions (scar tissue), or a septum.
After the test
You may have mild cramping or light spotting. Most people return to normal activities the same day.

Benefits
Safe, minimally invasive, outpatient procedure
Helps plan IUI or IVF by confirming a healthy uterine environment before treatment
Provides clear visualization of the uterine cavity to guide next steps
*Recommendations and next steps depend on individual findings and your overall fertility workup.
